How did the idea for the show come about?
A few years back, Danie van der Merwe got to taste the incredible wines of Arno Smith, (Arno Smith Wines), also an independent winemaker with his extremely popular Saartjie Range. With Danie’s passion for wine and the winemaking process, Arno started introducing him to several other independent winemakers in South Africa. The more he discovered about their wines, gripping stories, and unique characters, the more he felt something was wrong. It seemed a sin that much of South Africa did not know about these winemakers and their exceptional craft. That is when Danie created the concept for TV.
